Summary

The aim of the BCF-2022 project is to prepare, arrange and report the BASRECCS regional conference “BCF Baltic Carbon Forum 2022” which will be held in October. The BCF is part of BASRECCS’ long-term strategy to foster full-scale development of the climate change mitigation technologies carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) in the Baltic Sea Region. The aim is to enable interested and engaged stakeholders to meet, discuss, share knowledge and experiences, and develop projects. The BCF will invite network members and other relevant experts, stakeholders and interested persons to be a speakers of BCF 2022.

Session speakers responsibility

Panel members can make some verbal remarks about the topic and engage in the discussion or show a short presentation (maybe 5 mins/max 5 slides presentation followed by a discussion). There will be an open discussion where we will discuss the current industry role, the challenges and future goals in general on these topics. Each panel speaker will have an opportunity to present their PowerPoint presentation for 5 mins and following all presentations, the moderator will host a Q&A session.
The panel members need to send the title of the presentation. Panel members need to send the PDF presentation before the conference. Volunteers will display the PDF presentation during the event. Panel members need to check-in to the workshop event at least 10 mins before starting the session.

Session chair/moderator responsibilities
There should be at least two (2) session chairpersons/moderators per session. It is the Chairperson’s responsibility to ensure a meaningful discussion by developing leading questions and comments to stimulate discussion. After all the presentations are completed, the Session Chairperson should call for discussion. They should announce their name and company affiliation before presenting their question or comments. To generate discussion that is slow to start, the Session Chairperson should utilize previously prepared questions.

Chief Guest/ Key Note responsibilities
Will deliver a short speech on the overall industry or academia's role for the new challenges related to CCUS in Nordic-Baltic region in the coming decade. They will provide the speech at the beginning or at the end of the workshop depending on the availability.

  • The concept of CCUS clusters and hubs, its advantages (cost savings, synergy with renewables, sharing infrastructure and technologies), and possible challenges (political, regulatory, technical and financial).
  • The best known CCUS clusters in the world (operated and ready to start soon).
  • Possible onshore and offshore cross-border scenarios in the Baltic Sea Region (regulatory basis, reusing infrastructure, examples and cost estimates)
  • Conclusions and lessons learned from the recent developments.

Part 2:

  • Role of Modelling in accomplishing Carbon Neutrality
  • Simulation needs for modelling CCUS
  • Application of AI and ML in CCUS
  • Overview of some recent CCUS Pilot Projects
  • Patents and New Technology Overview
